A group of friends were entering Tough Mudder and we decided we’d try the boot camps at CrossFit Geebung 4034 to get fitter for the event.
I’ve tried lots of different forms of exercise and gyms before and done a lot of running which became lonely. I’d watched a few CrossFit classes and thought “I could do that!” and so I did. I wanted to try something new and improve my core strength.
CrossFit Geebung 4034 is the place that reminds me each day that I am a capable woman. There’s no leotards and lipstick there, just a bunch of down-to earth, slightly crazy people hanging from bars or upside down. It’s a circus really!!
I am fitter and stronger and happier. I has ignited my determination to succeed in all aspects of my life. I love feeling strong and capable. The programs have shown me I don’t need to starve myself to get results. I eat more now than I ever have, including carbs.
If you are thinking about trying CrossFit, then you are ready at any fitness level. My motto is “if you think it, do it” any time of day. Strap those shoes on and get moving. You must start somewhere, why not here? All workouts are structured to match your fitness level and scaled accordingly. You won’t be asked to do anything that you are not comfortable with. But you will get uncomfortable during workouts. There is no easy road to fitness. Workouts are never easy – but they get easier. We are all a work in progress.
I don’t want to be bulky and I’m not. I am strong! Yes, my physique changed and that is exactly what I wanted to achieve. Did I see muscle develop? Absolutely! Do I look like Tia-Claire Toomey? No. And I certainly don’t train like her. I’ve lost a bunch of fat and weight and I look and feel fit.
I don’t find time, I make the time to fit in my CrossFit classes. You will too. I have had the make myself a priority. I am just as important as my family. Three classes per week is the perfect work/life/family balance. And if I can sneak in another workout I will. By making myself a priority I ‘ve realised that life at home goes on without me. That was a huge wake up call for me. After a workout I feel exhausted for about 2 seconds, then ecstatic that I have achieved what I set out to. Some days it’s simply to get out of bed and strap on the shoes, others it’s to be there just doing it even if not at 100% effort and sometimes I feel so energised that I smash out a workout and can give 110% without a second thought. You do what you have to do to get through. The main thing is that YOU SHOW UP!
CrossFit makes me a better mum and a better person overall. For me it’s important to be present in my life as an individual and as a Mum. Exercise clears my mind and keeps me centred. It gets all of those positive endorphins moving about my body, that help me remain positive and focused for my family. Some days I can be so exhausted, then I reflect on the work out that I had that got me to that point, and all is well in the world. Once that workout is ticked off my checklist I can face anything, because I have achieved at least one thing form me that day!
You’re a mum, you know how strong you are! Believe in yourself. Be brave. Do something for you. You can change your world if you set your mind to it.
